What is MySQL? MySQL (can be pronounced by mai-es-ki-el or mai-si-kuel) is a relation database software (Relational Database Management System or abbreviated as RDBMS), as well as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL, and so on. Do not misunderstanding that MySQL term is the same as SQL terms. The SQL (stands for Structured Query Language) is a specific commands, syntax or language (programming?) used to manage a database. So, MySQL and SQL are two different 'things'. Let's say, MySQL is the software, while SQL is the language or command. Is it clear enough? :)

This tutorial is especially written for those who still using PHP 5.2.x rather than PHP 5.3.x. There is no significant difference in the installation process compared to PHP 5.2.x PHP 5.3.x. So this PHP 5.2.xx installation process can be used also for PHP 5.3.x installation, vice verse.

Apache is a web server software which will make your computer becomes (or functioning as) a server for the web. Apache software is also referred to as the HTTP server software. We chose PHP for some reasons/considerations, which are:
- Apache is an open-source software.
- Relatively FREE (you do not need to bother with the licensed fee matter).
- Reliable and tough, the most popular application on Net, approximately 54.55% of 206,675,936 the Internet sites (or 112,747,166 sites) using Apache (based on Netcraft Web Server Survey, as of March 2010).
